Chad Staley Memorial Development Fund
The Chad Staley Memorial Development Fund was established to honor the legacy of Chad Staley by guiding and supporting athletes in overcoming challenges, achieving goals, and growing into well-rounded individuals. The fund focuses on Athletics, Academics, Health, and Well-being, helping to build a community where every athlete has the resources to reach their full potential.

WHO CAN APPLY
This grant is open to individual athletes who:
- Live in Canada
- Are committed to personal growth through sport
- Demonstrate financial need or face barriers to participation
- Are 24 years of age or younger at the time of application
Applicants can be involved in any sport and at any level of development.
WHAT WE FUND
All funding requests must align with at least one of the Chad Staley Memorial Foundation’s main pillars, which reflect Chad’s values and legacy:
Existing Pillars
- Prioritize Health – Promote mental resilience and recovery from sport-related injuries
- Develop Athletics – Support and develop athletes to excel in their sport
- Promote Well-Being – Foster personal growth, character development, and community involvement
Emerging Pillars
- Provide Access – Ensure equal access to opportunities through memberships, online resources, and approved partners
- Empower Academics – Provide tools and resources to help athletes balance their education and athletic goals
You can request support for:
- Coaching/training
- Equipment or uniforms
- Competition travel and fees
- Academic tutoring or tools
- Mental health counselling or physical therapy
- Leadership or life skills development
- Access to inclusive programs or partnerships
What We Don’t Fund
- Costs already paid (no retroactive funding)
- General living expenses (e.g., rent, groceries)
- Alcohol, social events, or non-sport-related travel
Grant Amounts
- We will be awarding 2-3 grants to a maximum of $1,000.00 per grant
- Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate clear alignment with the Chad Staley Memorial Foundation Pillars and Application Criteria
APPLICATION CRITERIA AND INSTRUCTIONS
Applicants must submit:
1. A completed online application form. Note: the application form is only available when the grant cycle is open.

2. A personal statement explaining:

- Who you are and some background about you, which area you are requesting funding for and how it aligns with the CSMF existing and emerging pillars
- Describe your goals and explain how this funding will help you achieve them
- Describe any financial, personal, geographic, or other challenges that may affect your ability to participate, train, compete, or achieve your goals
3. A simple budget or outline showing what the grant funding will be used for
4. A minimum of one letter of support with your application (from a coach, teacher, mentor, or your sports National/Provincial/Local Sport Organization)
GRANT CYCLE
- Applications Open: June 15
- Applications Close: July 8
- All applicants will be notified of results by July 31, 2026
AFTER YOU RECEIVE A GRANT
If your application is successful, grant funds will be distributed by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
Grant recipients will be asked to:
- Submit a short follow-up report within 3 months (a paragraph, video, or photo update)
- Share your story so we can celebrate your journey and inspire others (with your permission)
- Submit to both the Prince George Community Foundation and Chad Staley Memorial Foundation (welcome@chadstaleyfoundation.ca)
- Pics of athlete in action welcomed
